This little girl decided to make her appearance on April 2nd, 2009 at 6:30am after many nights of restless sleep. She was lucky enough to even have an audience thanks to the wonderful people at MareStare! Queen had absolutely no trouble with the foaling, and little Rei made her way into the world and was up causing trouble in no time. Of course first she had to spend some time visiting with the strange two legged people that were nearby. After that however, Queen hasn't had a moment's rest!
Queen threw us all for a loop this year! After producing so many colts, and producing foals with tobiano coat patterns even when bred to solid stallions, we thought we knew what to expect. Once again, we got thrown quite a curveball with this little buddle of joy! Rei is a beautiful blagdon filly, though her color is still not quite determined. She's got 4 large white stockings, a funky blaze, as well as some interesting "snowflakes" across her haunches. April Reign's sire is none other than RR Tomboy, a 15.3hh Pintaloosa Gypsy Vanner Stallion. It appears that Rei might end up with some appaloosa markings, much like her father. We'll be sending in a hair sample to see if she carries the appaloosa gene, though her funky coat changing and mottling makes us think she does.
Rei is definitely one in a million. She's got an amazing personality, absolutely loving people and afraid of nothing. She's the first to greet you in the paddock and the last to leave, hoping to get one last scratch before you go. At the age of 2, Rei is close to 15hhs tall at least. She has turned out to be an incredibly tall and athletic filly, and we're so excited to start her ground driving training this year! If things go well, we might even be showing Rei in 2012!
CHF has had several offers to purchase Rei already, however, she's not for sale. Serious offers maybe considered, but it'll take a small fortune to get us to part with this lass.
Please excuse the funny haircut that Rei is sporting in the last few rows of photos. It was getting really warm, so we decided to give Rei a little shave. She stood there like she'd been doing it her entire life, but unfortunately the clippers did not handle the job as well as Rei did. LOL So Rei currently looks like she's molting, but rest assured she's fine. Her mama just needs a better set of clippers. hahaha
We Have Spots!!!! We were hoping to get some funky markings from her Sire Tomboy. It definitely appears that he shared a few of his funky spots with her! Obviously we will have to wait to see what color she'll end up being, but it will be fun trying to figure it out until then. Do you have a guess as to what Rei will end up being? If so, post it on the GuestBook! It will be neat to see what everybody thinks.
